‘Beating Eagles in Angola ‘ll bring joy to Mozambique’

By Tony Ubani

MOZAMBIQUE national team, the Mambas, are still raring for a war with the Super Eagles and they think that the best place to settle scores would be the Nations Cup in Angola.

Nigeria and Mozambique went through the skin of the teeth in the 2010 and Nations Cup qualifiers before Nigeria clinched the lone ticket to play in the World cup in South Africa in June next year.

The Eagles beat the Harambee Stars of Kenya 3-2 while Mozambique dislodged Nigeria’s bitter rivals, Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 1-0 in their last qualifiers.

Now, Mozambique coach Mart Nooij wants to prove to the world that they did Nigeria a huge favour by beating Tunisia to pave way for them to go to the world cup. “It’s time for us to prove who the better team is. Nigeria escaped being beaten in Mozambique because of questionable officiating.

Our fans are still bitter over it. And when we came to Abuja, Nigeria scored a goal after the expiration of added time. While we are still ruing our ill-luck, we got logged together in the Nations Cup. I am excited and so it is with all the players. They want to prove a point that they are better than the Nigerian players”, the coach who was also mentioned among those angling to take over Amodu Shuaibu’s job said.

Speaking further, he said that Mozambique might not be blessed with many players like Nigeria who are plying their trade in some of the best league in the world. “We’re united as a team. Our weapon is teamwork and the players are disciplined.

They have a better platform to prove that they can beat Nigeria’s ‘millionaire’ players. If that is the only thing we achieve in the Nations Cup, the Nation will be proud of it”, the coach said.
