Ilorinâ€”TheÂ Vice Chancellor,Â UniversityÂ of Ilorin,Â Professor Is-haqÂ Â Oloyede,Â has canvassedÂ forÂ the collaboration ofÂ African Universities, Research institutes as well as the industries for better development of the continent.
Professor Oloyede,Â whoÂ Â stated this at the opening ceremony of the African University DayÂ celebrations held at the University of IlorinÂ Conference Hall, also noted that it isÂ only through such collaboration that the necessary ingredients required for the development of the continent couldÂ be realised .
RepresentedÂ by the Deputy Vice Chancellor,Â Management Service, of the University, ProfessorÂ Albert Olayemi,Â the Vice-Chancellor saidÂ theÂ African University DayÂ isÂ celebrated onÂ 12thÂ November of every year, stressing thatÂ the universities areÂ expectedÂ to impart knowledgeÂ for developmentÂ in ourÂ countries.
HeÂ saidÂ the essence of theÂ celebrationÂ isÂ toÂ createÂ the awareness on the need of the universitiesÂ and other relatedÂ unitsÂ to come together toÂ assist each other for better development
HeÂ saidÂ todayÂ in Africa,Â universitiesÂ produceÂ graduates whoÂ are supposedÂ to constituteÂ the man power for the industriesÂ but thatÂ the only issue is that the graduates lackÂ the required skills to operate .
HeÂ saidÂ based on thisÂ gap, the industries have createdÂ their own research units to be ableÂ to help themselves.
HeÂ saidÂ theÂ focusÂ of thisÂ yearâ€™s celebrations is toÂ findÂ a wayÂ ofÂ Â providing linkagesÂ betweenÂ the universities,Â industriesÂ and researchÂ institutesÂ forÂ speedy development .
