WARRI — DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has said for Nigeria to be taken seriously in the comity of nations, it must ensure that the 2011 elections and other subsequent elections in the country remained transpa-rent.
Uduaghan, who stated this in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, said, “I travel round the world and I can say I know what is happe-ning there too.
“The truth is that until people have faith in our election, the respect they have for us will continue to dwindle.
“There is no need deceiving ourselves. We should accept that we should have a transparent and acceptable election nationwide.
“The whole world is watching us to see what will happen in 2011; we have to do the right thing because that is the only way we will be respected.â€
He said elections should not be seen as a war but a selection process by the people, adding that those seeking the votes of the electorate should be people of proven credentials and integrity.
“I will not like a situation where people will take elections in Delta State as a war, we are brothers and sisters.
“Let us be transparent in our conduct, let the election officials be transparent, let everybody be transparent so that we will have a transparent election,†he said.
The governor said there was no doubt that his government has impacted positively on the lives of the people since he assumed office in 2007.
“Let the people judge my government by our achievements in office, do not ask me to judge myself, you know I cannot be the judge in my own course,†he said.
