Sokoto—The Sokoto Customs Area Command, comprising  Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, has netted the sum of N202,286,492.67 of the N300m target for the Federal Government from January to October this year.

Speaking to Vanguard in Sokoto, the Customs Area Comptroller, Alhaji Musa Jubril, said that, of the amount,  N155,794,497.11 was generated from the Federation Account, which include Customs duty, excise, fees for auction, while the sum of N46,493,995.56 was generated from non-federation account, which include 7% surcharge, 5% ETLS and VAT.

He explained that the withdrawal of Customs officers at road blocks was not to be seen as an attempt for tax holiday but a strategy to enhance revenue generation drive for the government.

According to Jubril, “It is important to note that since duty on goods must be paid to the Federal Government, the relocation of officers of the Customs to the border posts is a strategy for enhanced revenue generation.”
