Maiduguri–Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno on Wednesday swore-in two new commissioners and special advisers with a warning to desist from absenteeism from public functions or face sanctions.
Modu Sheriff said that the warning became imperative because some commissioners and political appointees were in the habit of “dodging†government activities whenever he was out of the state.
“It is unfortunate that members of my cabinet who are supposed to steer public events when I’m away are now retarding government efforts.
“This ugly trend will no longer be tolerated,â€he warned.
Those sworn-in as commissioners are Mallam Zanna Gana and Mr Sunday Gadzama, while Alhaji Jibrin Satumari was sworn in as special adviser.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Gadzama thanked the governor for appointing them and promised to contribute to the development of the state.
