Rescue Edo PDP, party chieftain appeals to NEC

By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—A PROMINENT member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Mr. Victor Osarenren, has called on the National Executive Committee of the party to set the necessary machinery in motion to rescue the party in the state from the abyss.

Besides, he disclosed that a meeting of all authentic stakeholders of the party would soon take place to seek ways of salvaging the party from the clutches of protagonists of the crisis within the party as well as those who benefitted immensely from it.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Benin weekend, Osarenren, a former chairman of Uhunmwode local government council, said it was rather unfortunate that instead of facing the stark reality of the situation, many members of the party who arrogate leadership to themselves at several levels and who have little or no electoral value, have continued to delude themselves that the situation was under control

“Unfortunately, some of our elders and many of those who pretend to be leaders in the party have taken undue advantage of these time- honoured attributes and taken the members for granted.”

“The result is that our efforts at seeking reconciliation have not only failed, the party is drifting uncontrollably towards the precipice.

“As Edos, it is not in our culture or character to cast aspersion on our elders or reprimand them in private or public.”

“It is also unusual to express our disapproval or discontent in public or vent them in anger or fury, unless we are pushed to the wall,” he said.

He lamented that all efforts and sacrifices many of the party faithfuls made behind close doors to resolve the crisis have not yielded the desired results.

Appealing to the National Executive Committee of the party to do something about the resolution of the crisis in the state, Osarenren said time was fast running out before it was too late to act.
