Nearly four weeks after the Under-17 World Cup enforced recess, the Nigeria Premier League returned to the front burner on Wednesday with champions Bayelsa United losing to giants Rangers in the top-billed game of the week. Rangers defeated Bayelsa 1-0 and moved up the table. The coach Alphonsus Dike led side dominated the game and in the second half scored the only goal of the match.
The game was only one in a host of tasty crackers last Wednesday.
In Owerri, CAF Champions League finalists Heartland welcomed Dolphins, who unleashed some new signings. Heartland also pipped Dolphins 1-0, while League leaders Lobi Stars took on former champions Ocean Boys, while fallen giants Shooting Stars continued their quest for redemption at home to Kaduna United. The Mutiu Adepoju led side defeated Kaduna 3-1 to begin the break with a smile and three points.
Port Harcourt rumbled as Sharks took on their cross state rivals Enyimba. The encounter produced five goals with Enyimba defeating their host 3-2 to move to the top of the table. Kwara United picked the maximum points defeating Sunshine Stars 2-0 and Zamfara United played goalless with Wikki Tourists.
