Kenyan chef roots for Eaglets

By Fidelis Ebu in Nairobi
Ahead of today’s final of  the FIFA U-17 World Cup finals, Kenyans are giving their full support to the Eaglets against Switzerland at the Abuja National Stadium.

Godfrey Kanyanji Alughaya, the Chief chef of The Kivi Milimani Hotel was emphatic when he openly expressed his support for the players of the Golden Eaglets to outwit the Swiss.

“From what I’ve watched the Nigerian Golden Eaglets players perform, they have been making me happy with surprise wins. During the opening game against Germany, I had thought the Germans have shocked Nigeria, but they (Nigerians) came from three goals down to level up, this is a feat many other African teams might find difficult to do.

“With what they have been playing since the kick-off of this tournament, the Nigerian Golden Eaglets should sum up courage to beat Switzerland and lift the trophy they won two years ago in Korea. They have my full support, and they should beat Switzerland for the Cup”, Alughaya said in a chat here in Nairobi.
Disappointed that the Kenyan government and corporate organisations are not forthcoming with support to encourage the development of youth football in the country, Alughaya said there are many talents in both the metropolis and the suburbs that could make the country proud in any youth championship.

“We have many talents here that would be delighted if encouraged. Even Kibera, the largest slum area in Kenya, is capable of producing talents in both the Under-17 and Under-20 as well as the senior national team, but no one to give the talents the desired support.

I wish there was support, we would have one day dreamt of surprising the world in youth championships”, Alughaya added.
The Kivi Milimani hotel chef also stated that the wrangling at the Kenyan Football house was responsible for the country’s inability to fare well in the youth championship as well as the Harambee Stars woes.“We have talents in High schools, Colleges and the slums that are capable of making the country proud”, he said.
