KADUNA—The Presidential candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) in the 2007 general elections, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) is to face the disciplinary committee of the party in Kaduna state for allegedly spearheading a rebellion within the party in the state.
It is, however, not known how the party can try Buhari as he can only be dealt with by the National Disciplinary committee because of his status in the party. Besides, Buhari belongs to the Kastina state chapter of the party where he hails from, although he resides in Kaduna.
Secretary of the ANPP, Kaduna State chapter, Mr. Kennedy Musa Tifata, who made the intention of his party known at a news conference yesterday, said that Buhari, who is a former Head of State, must face a disciplinary committee for factionalizing the party in the state.
“Nobody is above the law. What General Buhari did contravenes the party constitution and the national secretariat must initiate measures right from his ward in Daura Local Government to the National party office,’’ he stated.
Kennedy said it was unfortunate that a man of General Buhari’s standing could lead a team of renegades to open a rival state office while there is an elected state executive of the party contrary to the rules.
Early this week General Buhari led a group of party supporters to open a new party secretariat along the Western Bye-pass in the state.
Buhari said at the occasion: “I must discharge my social responsibility to open a new office of ANPP in Kaduna State since the so-called leaders of the party have mortgaged our party and we can no longer bear them as the state officials and this is the beginning of the new movement to salvage our people from the hand of unpatriotic leaders.â€
