Awards of ECOWAS Peace Ambassador were given to Alpha Blondy of Coted’Voire and legendary reggae giant Jimmy Cliff. Their citations were read to the admiration of the audience as they were both honoured by the ECOWAS President.
Jimmy Cliff was the first to perform as he did acapela of some of his great hit songs including Many Rivers to Cross, I can see clearly now, Reggae Night amidst others. The voice was still strong and powerful, surprisingly and the crowd applauded and follow the rhythm of the songs including the old generation (“oldskoolsâ€) and the new generation of people.
It carries the tempo that made Jimmy Cliff an instant hit in the early 70’s & 80’s, indeed, he is a living legend.
He said “I am highly delighted to be honoured today as an ECOWAS Peace Ambassador, peace is first and foremost a thing of the mind, all human being must be at peace within, then, it can be translated to our homes, families, companies, nation and other continent, I thank ECOWAS and the organisers. I love you all.â€
Alpha Blondy equally did a song as he went through a lot of emotion accepting the Ambassadorial Award for Peace.
“We must be our brother’s keeper, this is the message we have been preaching and we will continue to preach it, Africa and the black continent is great and that is why we are all here.â€..
