DUTSE â€” THE Jigawa State government has awarded four additional new roads contracts as it equally approved for the rehabilitations of some others at the total cost of about N14 billion.
The state Commissioner of Works and Transport, Mr Baba Aliyu, who stated this while answering questions from newsmen in his office, said it was part of the present government’s commitment to see that before the expiration of its tenure it makes all its roads motorable.
He said the roads would equally ease transportation difficulties as well as enhance the socio-economic activities of the people of the state especially those who donâ€™t have access to good roads before.
AliyuÂ explained further that the present government had since inception embarked on massive rehabilitations and constructions of roads across the state, stressing that the recent road contractÂ include a 50-kilometre road from Kafin-Hausa-Ruba, Sabon Sara-Balangu at the cost of N13,275,620.50k, Gidan Faru-Daba-Dandi road covering 24 kilometres.
According to the commissioner, others include Sarawa-Gurgun Dabo road and Tsamiya-Iggi-Jiboga-Birnin-Kudu road, pointing out that the construction of four benefiting roads will equally cost the government N4.4 billion, N1.9 billion, N396 million, N3.7 billion and N873 million respectively.
Vanguard reports that the Jigawa state government through the Ministry of Works and Transport has awarded roads contract in various part of the state worth N18billion in the last two and a half years of Governor Sule Lamidoâ€™s regime.
A part from reviving the transport sector where it procured buses called Jigawa Sunrise and spread across walks of life to generate revenue for the state, in addition to the tricycles it assembled in the state for both inter and intercity transportation.
