Ilorin — Kwara Central Senatorial candidate of the Action Congress (AC) in the last election, Princess Bilkis Gambari, has accused the police of intimidating her supporters from volunteering for the party  ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.

Two supporters of the opposition Action Congress (AC) were last Thursday night arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State for pasting posters of the party around Adewole Estate of the state capital.

The development led to a face-off between the police and the party supporters.

Gambari in an interview with reporters in Ilorin,  however, exonerated the state government from complicity in the matter, expressing concern that the police wanted to silence the voice of the opposition to rhyme with claims by the ruling party that there was no more opposition groups in the state.

The posters in question contained various inscriptions and cartoons to communicate the message and slogan of the AC. One of them reads: “Gba Won Danu. Ijoba ti ko wulo”, that is, “let’s sweep away a useless government.”

Gambari told journalists that the police should apply to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if they thought the AC slogan was inciting.
