MAIDUGURI—Southern Borno councilors’ forum has warned the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to halt the proposed swearing in of the 27 local government chairmen imposed on party members in the state by the nation leadership.
The forum gave the warning yesterday at a press conference held at the NUJ House, Maiduguri. The councilors stated that the purpose of their briefing was to sensitize PDP members on the need for unity, which they argued, is a vital tool in building a stronger party in preparation for 2011 general elections.
The forum also expressed its strong support for the present Borno state executives under the leadership of Alhaji Baba Basharun and saluted his courage for the hard work towards ensuring the unity of the party. They also urged all members to give their maximum supports for the tasks ahead.
They further urged PDP members in the state to support the southern Borno candidate, Ambassador Saidu Pindar, who has indicated interest to contest for the governorship position in the state, arguing that for fairness and equity they are supposed to be given the chance as they have never produced the governor of the state.
The forum noted that Ambassador Saidu Pindar is a philanthropist who has touched the lives of the common man by distributing materials worth millions of naira to the people during and after the past Ramadan period and also procured several trucks of fertilizer during the farming season, which were distributed to farmers irrespective of their party affiliation.
