THERE is fear among supporters of the leader of the Niger-Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF) and Peoples Salvation Front (PSF), Mujahid Abubakar Dokubo-Asari, that he may be arrested following a security report that he has been clandestinely training over 5,000 men in weapon handling.
He is also said to have acquired sophisticated arms and securing international support to launch a full-blown attack on the nation from 2010.
For about two months running, the whereabouts of the activist have remained a mystery to security agents.
However, spokesman for NDPVF/PSF, Comrade Rex Anighoro, who confirmed that the group was aware of the security report on Dokubo-Asari, said government was planning to use some former militants to blow up oil installations and blame it on Asari with a view to getting at him.
He said that security information available to the group suggested that part of the plan was to also “burn down properties associated with Dokubo Asariâ€.
He said the federal authorities could not understand why Dokubo’s group would not accept amnesty and “our continuous insistence and firmness to continue the legitimate struggle of the Niger Delta People against the Nigerian state .
This they consider as a very potent threat to peace in the Niger – Delta region after their believed demystification of top militant leadersâ€.
