Sokoto — For Nigeria to be one of the 20 strong economies in the world by year 2020, energy planning at the federal and state governments levels must be inculcated into the national development plans.
Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo said this at the opening of a five-day zonal workshop jointly organised for engineers, scientists and planners on Energy Demand and Supply Projections in Nigeria at the Sokoto Energy Research Centre, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.
Delivering a paper entitled: “The challenges of energy planning for ensuring enhanced national energy supply,†Prof. Sambo said : “The use of the modern energy modeling tools to adequately plan for energy demand and supply is a path that all the developed and fast growing countries have followed.â€
Noting that energy demand and supply projections were key components of energy planning at all levels, he said integrated energy planning was essential in achieving energy supply security.
