THE call by some Nigerians on the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to sack Coach Shaibu Amodu as the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles has drawn the ire of his kinsman, Chief Peter Aronokhale, who described the call as unjust and uncalled for after the coach qualified the team for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
It would be recalled that notable Nigerians including the former Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association, Col. Mumuni, have called for the hiring of a foreign technical adviser to take the Super Eagles to South Africa 2010.
However, speaking with Sports Vanguard in Benin, Wednesday, while reacting to the call, Chief Aronokhale who is the Osegba of Okpella recalled Shaibu Amodu’s feat when in 2002 he qualified the Super Eagles for the World Cup in South Korea but was later disengaged.
He lamented that Amodu was later replaced by Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, who he recalled, could not take the Super Eagles beyond the preliminary round.
“Now that he has taken the mantle of leadership again, Amodu did wonders by making Nigeria to qualify for both the World and Nations Cups.â€
