WARRI—ABOUT 266 projects worth over N10.257 billion executed by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) in different oil communities in Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko and Ndokwa ethnic nationalities in Delta State are to be commissioned between December 1 and 14.
Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties in charge of DESOPADEC, Barrister Edna Orieze, disclosed this at a press conference in Warri, yesterday.
She said “DESOPADEC, from inception till date, has awarded about 1,198 contracts with 447 completed and 751 at various stages of completionâ€.
According to her, the commission, in its two years of operation, has improved inter-ethnic harmony and unity, improved infrastructure, social and economic well-being of the oil producing communities and enhanced peace and security in the state.
Mrs. Orieze, flanked by top officials of DESOPADEC, including the chairman, Chief Wellington Okirika, said the commission, through its activities, has also ensured equitable distribution of resources, improved physical infrastructure, especially in education, housing, health and water facilities.
She said the commission constructed about 150km of intra-state road network across the oil producing communities.
