Two hundred and sixty-six projects worth over N10.2b will be commissioned by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESPOPADEC), the stateâ€™s commissioner for Special Duties (DESPOPADEC), Mrs Orezi Osievo, has said.
She told a media gathering this week in Warri, Delta state that the projects which include school buildings, educational equipment, community houses and town halls, road projects, hospitals, water projects among others will be handed over to the five ethnic nationalities that make up the commissionâ€™s host communities- Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, Isoko and NdokwaÂ TtheyÂ will be handed over the projects from next week,Â Dec 1- Dec 14.
The agency, the commissioner went on, in its two years, has awarded about 1, 198 contracts, with 447 completed and 751 at various stages of completion. The first phase of the completed projects to be commissioned numbering 266 projects were executed at a total cost of N10, 257b.
She argued that the commission has, through its operations, improved inter ethnic harmony and unity, improved infrastructure, social and economic well being of the oil producing communities and enhanced peace and security in Delta state.
The commission has also through its activities ensured equitable distribution of resources, improved physical infrastructure, especially in the areas of education, housing, health care, water facilities and has constructed 150km of intra state road network across the oil producing communities.
