LAGOSâ€”Former Lagos State governor, and Chairman of the committee working on the manifesto and constitution of the mega party, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, said yesterday that the manifesto and constitution of the proposed mega party is to receive input from all national stakeholders and proponents of a new Nigeria.
Jakande who made the remark in Lagos after a two day retreat held by the group said â€œa broad based party that will take into account the sufferings and aspirations of the people of the country is to emerge from the ongoing consultations of political leaders in the countryâ€.
A statement by theÂ Publicity Director of Mega Summit Movement, Alhaji Hamisu San Turaki, said â€œa harmonization parley of key proponents of alternative mega political force is to be facilitated by a team comprising Dr Tunji Braithwaite, Alhaji Balarabe Musa and Prof Pat Utomi next week to resolve grey areas in the ongoing process.â€
Turaki who said a National Summit will hold on 23rd/24th of this month in Abuja, where the new political platform will be announced said â€œsix zonal mobilization teams have also been mandated by the Movement to reach out to stakeholders in the 36 states of the federation and integrate them into the mega party. process.
According to him â€œthis is following the formation of National Democratic Movement, NDM by the Northern trio of General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar and Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa in Abuja last week and the consensus by those present at the meeting that the NDM should work with the Mega Summit Movement to launch a strong political party before the end of the yearâ€.
Commenting on the outcome of the parley San Turaki saidÂ â€œThe Mega Movement is resolved to embrace all emergent initiatives towards arresting the drift in the country. Consultations are ongoing with similar platforms like Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, CODER, Labour and the Civil Society and the Good Governance Group with a view to bringing all patriotic platforms into one single block to form a formidable alternative force to rescue democracyâ€.
