Community protests Ekweremadu’s constituency project

ABAKLALIKI—THE People of Adogbalato Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, have  protested against the use of substandard materials in the construction of about 500 meters  drainage system along  Nkwo Adogbalato Kingdom Market Road, a constituency project by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The constituency project is said to be handled by Bage Construction Company, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works.

The Traditional Ruler of Adogbalato Kingdom, Igwe Christopher Oti, who briefed newsmen, expressed displeasure over the use of what he said were substandard materials in the execution of the job, which according to the traditional ruler, do not  have a life span of more than  nine months.

Though, the Royal Father hailed the effort of the Deputy Senate President in attracting the project, which he said is the first of its kind in the area since the inception of the present democracy in 1999, he, however, said that anything worth doing, is worth doing well. He  added that since government has remembered his people, there was need for such project to be executed with quality materials, so as to enable it stand the test of time and serve the purpose for which it was meant.

“Using substandard materials to execute such project would amount to making nonsense of the entire thing because it wont last up to nine months before being washed away by rains.  I am calling on the Deputy Senate President and the Federal Ministry of Works as a matter of urgency, to send a team of experts to ascertain the quality of job being executed by the contractor.

“I must tell you, we quite appreciate the efforts of the Deputy Senate President and the Federal Government to improve the lots of our people, but we are also saying that the project should be done in such a way that it will outlive its initiators. We are saying this so that government funds will not be wasted at the end of the day. How can you use ordinary block instead of slabs to construct a drainage system?, he asked.
