ABUJA—Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Paul Dike, has inaugurated the first and most modern Operational Data Room ever built by the Nigerian military with a capability to get across both international and internal theaters of operation including several peacekeeping and internal security areas at the press of a button.
This will enable the Defence Headquarters or any of the Services headquarters to get across to any operational area in the world through video, voice, and data modes for direct and effective delivery of command to commanders on the field.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Air Chief Marshall Dike said: “Part of the responsibilities entrusted on our shoulders as officers and men at the Defence Headquarters, is the monitoring and coordination of joint operations involving the Army, the Navy and the Airforce.
This task becomes even more challenging when it has to do with internal security duties or certain aspects of Peace Support Operations anywhere in the world. This pre-supposes that we must have the required capacity for us to be effective.
“It is in the light of the foregoing that we decided to upgrade the DHQ Ops Room, using the best available equipment in the field. It is expected that this new equipment will enhance our capability in discharging our duties for the betterment of the Nigerian people,†he said.
Continuing, the CDS said, “What we are commissioning today is the first part of a two-phase upgrade of the DHQ Operations Room with the emphasis being functionality.
“When the second phase is completed, we would have acquired the capacity to pass real-time information accurately and effectively on voice, data and video modes.â€
