BAUCHI—THE Bauchi State office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is to set up committee at community levels to provide security against vandalization of solar panels and other installations mounted in various parts of the state by the agency.
To this end, four Bauchi based NGOs have been selected and saddled with the task of training community members on how to ensure effective monitoring and maintenance of the facilities, particularly solar panels mounted on solar power boreholes.
Addressing newsmen on the new initiative, the Special Assistant to Governor Isa Yuguda on MDGs, Hajara Wanka, said the NGOs would visit the benefitting communities and select two youths who would be trained on maintenance of water and sanitation facilities.
She explained further that on completion of the training, the NGOs would supervise the formation of water sanitation units, as well as the water sanitation and hygiene committees.
Wanka stated that with such committees in place the incident of theft, vandalization and careless handling of facilities would be curtailed as communities would pay more active roles in checkmating vandals.
She therefore urged communities across the state to be transparent in the choice of committee members so that only dedicated people would serve as members considering the enormity of the responsibility vested in them.
