WARRI—A MEMBER of the Delta Waterways and Security Committee (DWSC) in Delta State, Reverend Duke Akpososo, has asked the Federal Government to direct Nigerian military engineers to overhaul the weapons surrendered by ex-militants and use them to beef up the Nigerian armoury rather than destroy them.
He said in a statement in Warri, Delta State that it would amount to a huge financial waste if the high-priced arms surrendered by the ex-militants, including Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, Tom Ateke, Victor Ebikabowei Ben, alias ‘General’ Boyloaf, and other ex-militants were destroyed.
His words: “I want to suggest that Nigerian military engineers should take a good look at the weapons and ammunition and see the possibility of refurbishing them and putting them in a very good shape and form, as they can be used to beef up the Nigerian armoury.â€
Reverend Akpososo also appealed to the Federal Government to keep faith with the post-amnesty programme and redeem all its pledges and promises in no distant time, adding that “this will, of course, guarantee a no come-back to militancy in the Niger-Delta.
“In the same vein, the governors of the Niger-Delta states should put measures in place to fast- track development in the region.â€
