2010 World Cup: Amodu knows fate next week

Shaibu Amodu, the Eagles’ Chief Coach, would next week know whether or not his services with the national team would be retained.
The Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee has scheduled a meeting for next week to determine Amodu’s contract with the Eagles as well as the players that would be retained to prosecute the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“I cannot say anything about Amodu’s contract now even though it is expected to terminate after the African Cup of Nations in Angola.

“The Technical Committee has scheduled a meeting for next week to look into many issues including Shaibu Amodu and the Eagles’ performances so far in the qualifying games. And after the meeting, there would be a report on all the qualifying games played, and it’s the report that would direct us on what next to doconcerning Amodu’s contract as well as the players. Whatever we are going to do, we will do it fast as we have scheduled to start preparation in earnest for Angola. Time is no longer on our side”, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi said.

He, however, stated that the NFF has directed its agents to start arranging friendly matches for the Eagles ahead the Angola Nations Cup.
Though he did not disclose any top nation such friendly matches for the Eagles would be with, Ogunjobi said the friendly matches would be in Europe and Africa.

“We’ve directed our agents to start looking for friendly matches for the Eagles as part of our preparation for Angola. Certainly,  some of the friendly matches would be in Europe and some here in Africa. Now that the Eagles have qualified us for the 2010 World Cup finals, many countries would like to play friendly games with our Eagles. Don’t be surprised if Brazil accepts the offer to give us friendly game.”
