Oyo PDP crisis worsens

EFFORTS by the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resolve the crisis that has engulfed Oyo State chapter of the party in the last two years may have failed.

The National Reconciliation Committee of the party led by Senator Ike Nwachukwu had visited the state on Friday where it met  with the contending factions in the Government House. The major actors then took  pictures signalling the end of the feud.

But no sooner than the Reconviction Committee departed  Ibadan, the state capital, than  the contending groups gave different interpretations to the terms of the agreement at the meeting.

The group loyal to Governor Christopher Alao-Akala said the reconciliation did not mean  the dissolution of the state executive council of the party, a council which emergence is at the root of the crisis within the party whereas  the other groups believe  the council has been dissolved and replaced by an Implementation Committee.

At the meeting held on Thursday, the Reconciliation Committee announced that it has received the endorsement of the National Working Committee, NWC,  in Abuja that the congress which led to the emergence of the disputed executive was not recognised by INEC and the PDP secretariat because it was held against an injunction by a competent court of law.

The party has taken the right decision. You cant build something on nothing.IT is heartwarming that PDP is alive to its responsibility of abiding by the rule of law.The old exco was illegitimate and has put the party in crisis.
