*As NASU, SSANU, NAAT threaten strike
By Victor Ahiuma-Young
ABUJA— INDICATIONS emerged yesterday that members of the Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), and their National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) counterpart, may resume their suspended strike today over inability to reach agreement with government.
The trio, had three weeks ago suspended their industrial action along with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which shut down academic activities and operations at the nation’s public universities,
This latest development has raised fears of another disruption of academic activities in the ivory towers less than three weeks that students returned to campuses.
General Secretary of NASU, Comrade Peters Adeyemi, told Vanguard that there are indication that members and the other two unions could resume the suspended strike today.
He blamed the development on the inability to reach agreement with government and reiterated the union’s argument that the issue was not all about emoluments, but about the funding of the university system, failing and decaying infrastructure.
Some of the contentious issues before the two weeks suspension of the strike, Comrade Adeyemi told Vanguard were “ What are the reasons for the award of 20 percent wage increase to us, 20 percent increase to another and 40 percent to another of our colleagues? If they are telling us that our members are essentially junior staff, which is not true, because the registrars, bursars and the rest all not junior staff.

This is democracy .there should be a level playing ground for these unions to be heard by the fg. The fg . should call these unions for a reasonable compromise. We have the money. A nation where a single citizen (politician) secures about 130 billion in his personal account whereas half the populates go to bed hungry. They should stop decieving themselves.
Sampat.o
It is completely wrong for the NASSU and co to insist that whatever acrued to ASU must also be due to them bc the primary aim of setting any university is to Teach and Research of which ASU is the sole executor of this objectives. I think the federal govt is so magnanimous with them……..most of them do nothing in the school week 2 week and they receive more than a Principal in a secondary school who probably has better certificates than them.
Bullshit…i think VC should open a register for them whoever fails to return to work should be sacked.
ENOUGH OF STRIKE!!!!!!!!
what is good for ASSU is also good for NASU.SSANU & NAAT. The govt should meet their needs, we are sick and tired of strikes
If any non-academic staff wants to be earning the same salary like the lecturers, let the person go and read more and be a lecturer, period!!! It is mere greed to expect a a degree holder, whi is just a civil servant to expect to get the same salary with a Professor whose promotions depends essentially on research and PH. D degree in addition to train other students on how to do research. In the army, the civilians never go on srtike because their salary is different from the soldiers.
It looks like students would also go on strike and see if school fees would be abolished.A whole Nigeria with all this strikes.Abeg NASU AND NAAT resolve your differences.
Haba Nigerians! lets learn to settle issues with dialogue. it is unreasonabe for whatever reason for any union to go on strike again. Consider the students pls!
BRAVO!! 4the Nig.Govt.
“Pikin way say em Mama no go sleep”
‘Him no sleep”.
“As u did to my friend”
“Do also to”………………………………Like ASSU,Like………………
“He blamed the development on the inability to reach agreement with government and reiterated the union’s argument that the issue was not all about emoluments, but about the funding of the university system, failing and decaying infrastructure…”
All these are mere rhetorics. The whole argument is all about money and salary increase. Let me remind these Unions that they are meant to be providing complimentary services and so are never the same with the academic staff. If not, why won’t health workers in Teaching Hospitals be demanding the same salary scale as Medical doctors and Nurses?
I would u suggest to the various bodies to be considerate on the masses while fighting for thier rights, because the government officials are not the ones suffering it is student and i would appeal to the government to open her eyes and see what is befalling the educational sector.
This is democracy in deed. Nigerians have learnt to ask for what they want and no going back.
Nigerian leaders must be feeling the heat now. They should bear it and learn to give the people what they want… they should learn to serve.
Aluta continua… victoria acrertia!
