DAMATURU â€” Chairman of Yobe State agency for Community and Social Development Project (CSDP), Alhaji Bulama Nagabasku has commended the Federal Government for merging the Community Poverty Reduction Project (CPRP) and Local Empowerment Environmental Management Projects, two agencies set up to reduce poverty and empower the people, saying the merger will make their projects more efficient and effective.
Speaking at a one-day sensitisation workshop in Damaturu, Nagabasku said, â€œthe harmonisation of the proj-ects is expected to make operation of the individual projects more efficient and effective by avoiding duplication of efforts and to promote good governance.â€
He explained that,Â â€œthe objective of CSDP is to increase the access of the poor people to social and natural resources and infrastructure services in a sustainable manner.â€
In his presentation, the General Manager of the agency, Alhaji Goni Babagana said, â€œboth the CPRP and LEEMP that merged into CSDP and another world bank-funded project, Fadama II and III used community driven development (CDP) approach to service delivery. CDP, according to him â€œsimply empowers the poor to effectively organise to provide goods and services.â€
