ENUGU—FORMER Assistant National/South East Zonal Secretary of the PDP, Chief Okey Ezenwa, has said that the decision by the Anambra governorship candidate for the 2007 election, Dr. Andy Uba, to seek the reclamation of his mandate through the court was the only logical and reasonable thing to do.

According to him, this is based on the fact that he (Uba) won the election and was duly sworn in as Governor of  Anambra State in 2007.

Ezenwa, who was the Director-General of Andy Uba Campaign Organisation, told Vanguard in an interview in Enugu,  yesterday that going by the Supreme Court ruling that ordered Dr Uba to vacate the Government House to enable Mr. Peter Obi complete his four-year tenure, it had therefore become imperative for Uba to return to the office and complete his tenure, since his election was not annulled by any court of competent jurisdiction in the country.

He said, “this is a man (Uba), who has been consistent in his believe in the rule of law and had pursued his case legitimately through the judiciary.  Instead of saluting his courage, perseverance and adherence to the rule of law, which is rarely found in third world countries, some people out of ignorance or due to personal interests are vilifying him for taking such noble steps.

“Let me also say that the party (PDP) had not been  fair to Uba.  How can a party which sponsored a candidate for an election and that candidate having conducted one of the most extensive, intensive and comprehensive campaigns ever in this country and having won that election convincingly and overwhelmingly turn around to conduct a fresh primaries for the same position, when the candidate is jointly in court with the party to reclaim his mandate?”, he queried.
