UNILORIN’ll never join ASUU strike, says V-C

By Demola Akinyemi

The Vice- Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has said that the university will never  join the national leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in any of its strikes, saying that its sense of probity was profound and that posterity will always vindicate  the university.
Professor Oloyede, at a news conference he addressed yesterday to mark the commencement of the 25th convocation of the university, said the university had no regret for not participating in ASUU strike.
His words: “If thinking about the future of the future generations and making sacrifice for the university system not to collapse are what we are criticised for, so be it. Our sense of probity is profound and posterity will ultimately vindicate the righteous.

“I can assure you that those who openly criticise the university of Ilorin are secretly seeking admission for their children and wards in the university and are desiring to spend their sabbatical leave with us.
“Fortunately or unfortunately, the University of Ilorin is like a fruitful tree which must bear the little pains of pebbles. The university, we realise, has to bear the tantrums of those who envy and criticise for what it is and that is natural.

“On the issue of avoiding strike actions about which a few agitators have further thrown darts, with some even speculating crisis where there is none, it is part of our academic freedom to think differently at this stage of our institutional existence,” the VC said.
