UBA inaugurates Lion Toastmasters club

United Bank of Af rica PLC in collaboration with Eaglet Toastmasters Club of Victoria Island will this week inaugurate an in-house unit of the Toastmasters Club The inauguration is  part of efforts to encourage leadership development and public communications skills among staff of the bank.

The club which is to be known as the Lions Toastmasters Club is to be affiliated with Toastmasters International; the global leadership and public communications skills development organisation which berthed in Nigeria recently following the emergence of the Eagle Toastmasters Club and the Surulere Toastmasters Club.

Speaking at a pre-inauguration  press conference,  Divisional Head Corporate Relations UBA Plc, Mr.  Michael Smith, said the establishment of UBA Lions Toastmasters Club will be the first in corporate Nigeria . According to him UBA joins the likes of Shell, Exxon Mobil, Google and a host of other international organisations that have established similar corporate Toastmasters Club within their organisations

He outlined the benefits of the affiliation to include improved public communications skills, enhanced leadership development opportunities for staff. Communicating effectively is of paramount importance to businesses hence the need to train people on how to communicate well. “As sales people, we would be trained to be better marketers, offering valuable tips and presentation skills during sales and marketing pitches” he noted

Remi Abere, President of Eagle Toastmasters, the premier Toastmasters Club in Nigeria , described said UBA was chosen by the Toastmasters International, because of its leverage in the financial services sector in Nigerian and Africa at large. “Being a leading financial service provider on the continent with increasing international status and service delivery potentials, UBA will enjoy better improved customer relations, acquisition and retention on account of this collaboration” she said.
