Who wants to nullify the election? — Enebeli Elebuwa
Most of us who are the elderly ones in the industry are not always consulted when important decisions are to be taken regarding affairs of the guild.
For me, if an election has been conducted and won by Segun Arinze, what’s the point trying to nullify the election? In this country, people don’t obey law and order. So, what could be the reason to want to conduct another election?
I support Segun Arinze’s election— Kate Henhaw-Nuttal
I totally support the election of Segun Arinze.
The outgoing president, Ejike Asiegbu, is the only person who has the right to conduct any election for the guild. Another election outside of the one that produced Segun as president is not acceptable to us.
They are on their own.
No comment — Lilian bach
I don’t want to comment on the issue presently. I have not been
around for awhile now. So, I don’t know much about what’s going on within the leadership of AGN. But until I have made my findings, I prefer to remain silent on the issue.
Segun is full of ideas — Emem Isong
I believe that Segun Arinze has both ideas and the quality to move
the guild forward. Let’s give him a chance.
The entire members of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, (AGN)
Lagos chapter said it has drawn the attention of the general public to the recent news that Mr Segun Arinze has been elected the national president of the AGN.
The group stated, “In this regard, we hereby make the following declaration:
*That as far as AGN Lagos is concerned, there was no election.
*That there is a subsisting matter in court awaiting judgment, which makes it impossible for Mr. Asiegbu and company to organize an illegal election.
*That Mr. E. Asiegbu and company committed contempt of Court to organize an illegal election.
*That Mr. Segun Arinze is not a duly registered card carrying and financial member of the AGN and so is not qualified to contest for any election.
“In this regard, the AGN, Lagos hereby disclaims Mr. Segun Arinze as a member of the guild and restrains him from further parading himself as President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria.â€
Meanwhile, chairman, care taker committee of the guild, Kanayo .O. Kanayo, and his spokesman, Charles Okafor, during the week, advised members of the guild to disregard the purported election, declaring that the general election of the guild will surely hold as planned in December.
Also, the subsisting matter between Asiegbu and the body, came up in court on Tuesday for hearing. The bulky actor was dragged to the Federal High Court at Oyekan Abayomi Waterfront, Ikoyi, early this year, by some aggrieved members of the guild to answer questions on his insistence on “illegally occupying†the seat of the president of AGN, despite the fact that the two tenures he was allowed by the guild’s constitution had long elapsed.
When HVP contacted KOK, he only muttered that, “I’m just coming out of court, and will soon issue a press statement.â€
But his spokesman, Mr. Charles Okafor, reacting to the purported election, declared that it would not disturb the AGN plan to organise a more credible and transparent national election.
“Anything that must be done must be done transparently and nationally. As far as we are concerned, there was no election conducted whatsoever,†said Okafor.
