BENIN —THE member representing Oredo Federal Constituency of Edo state in the House of Representatives, Mr. Patrick Obahiagbon, has donated motorcycles and grinding machines estimated at over N5.2million to unemployed youths in the constituency.
Obahiagbon, who urged the Federal Government to engage the militants that were just granted amnesty in order not to have a recurrence of crisis in the Niger Delta, stressed that the only solution to the end of the crisis was the provision of employment opportunities the way he had empowered over 70 unemployed youths in his constituency.
Items donated included 38 motorcycles and 36Â grinding machines.
Speaking on the colorful occasion, which was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Levis Aigbogun, and other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South senatorial district of the state, Obahiagbon regretted that political office holders were in the habit of abandoning the electorates after they had been elected by the people.
“We cannot but give back a little to the people what they have given to us. If it is not the business of a legislator to tar roads, if it is not the business of a legislator to build schools, you must be able to give things such as this to your people.”
“I want to advise the federal government to engage the youths of the Niger Delta because amnesty alone cannot solve the problem of the region.
“If these boys are not gainfully employed and integrated into the society, the purpose of the amnesty will fail,†he stated.
