As the nation marks her 49th Independence anniversary, the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) has demanded a review of the political processes that ushered people into leadership positions.
The party said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Ben Onyechere that as Nigerians celebrate, the Government at the centre must move to strengthen the nation’s democracy, declaring that the Fourth Republic has failed to live up to the billing of many Nigerians.
“The Fourth Republic is a big disappointment since it has adversely rubbed off on the people of this country by utterly reducing the living standards of our people.
“The leadership of this country must avert an eruption in the polity which has exhausted its elasticity.
The government at the federal level must move quickly to disabuse the polity and re-assure the people of this country that their votes will count in future, in addition to re-engaging government machinery towards specifically re-starting the textile mills and other industries that can create employment opportunities.â€
The party continued: “the lingering ASUU strike is a huge national embarrassment which portrays the government in an image of confusion and as such the way the government can regain its credibility is by sacking the Minister of Education, Sam Egwu, because the current strike situation has become grossly unacceptable.
