PDP is confused – Edo govt
….Don’t be intimidated by AC, PDP tells EDHA members
By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—Edo State government said yesterday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state was in a confused state and would never win elections in the state in the nearest future.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Abdul Oroh, who declared this at Government House, Benin City, while introducing the new Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Affairs and Strategy, Mr. Tony Iyare, to newsmen, said the PDP lost its chances after it failed to improve the lives of the people of the state for almost ten years in power.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has urged members of the state House of Assembly not to be intimidated over what it described as undue pressures from the Action Congress (AC) government in the state in discharging its constitutional responsibilities.
The new state chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, who officially resumed office at the state secretariat of the party yesterday, recalled the crisis that ensued between the leadership of the House and the state government when the House refused to approve the construction of six lanes on Airport and Akpakpava roads.
He regretting that even after the House approved the budget, the state government was yet to implement it.
Orbih, who hailed the activities of the House so far, said that “ there was a budget read out at the inception of this government, but one year after, most of the things that are there in that budget have not been implemented.
“If you want to rate the performance of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led government in Edo State, you will score him under twenty per cent.
Reacting to the weekend rally of PDP, where the new leadership of the party in the state, led by Chief Dan Orbih and Chief Tony Anenih, vowed that the PDP would reclaim the state in the next governorship election, Oroh asserted that the party was deluding itself.
“The PDP is just ranting and they know very truly that they are finished in Edo State. They will be out of business for a long time to come. They should face other states; by next year, they will fizzle out completely in Edo State.
“ You know that they are still divided, even when they enacted what appeared to be a hollow ritual, a ritual that is primitive and undemocratic.
“The PDP is disintegrating and as they are disintegrating, the Action Congress is consolidating. So, they are just deceiving themselves and very soon, they will completely be erased in the politics of the state.â€
Oroh stated that the state government was committed to fiscal responsibility, adding that the level of internally generated revenue had increased to about 800 percent since Governor Adams Oshiomhole assumed office in November last year.
He attributed the increase in the internally generated revenue to the government tax policy and fiscal responsibility, and noted that all the  contracts of the state government in the 2009 budget would be awarded before the end of the year.
According to him, all contractors will be motivated to ensure successful execution of contracts.
