PDP caretaker c’ttee faults Gov Jang’s factional activities
By Peter Duru
MAKURDI — Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Abu King Shuluwa, has declared that the refusal of Governor Jonah Jang to cooperate with his committee has constituted a stumbling block to the work of the team.
Speaking to newsmen weekend in Makurdi, Shuluwa regretted that despite the directive by the national leadership of PDP that the two factions of the party in the state should cease to exit, Governor Jang continued to finance his faction known as the ‘PDP 1’ thereby giving the faction the leverage to exist.
The caretaker committee chairman faulted alleged actions state Governor, pointing out that no individual is bigger than the party, hence all party faithful must comply with party directive especially when such are geared towards enthroning lasting peace in an area.
According to Shuluwa, “Jang still recognises the former executives of the party in the state and not my Committee. As a result of this we lodged a complain to the National Executives who also urged the Inspector-General of Police to seal up the operational offices of the two factions of the party in the state.
“Unfortunately, the Dariye-led faction has complied with the directive to cease functioning but that cannot be said of the Jang-led faction. What is more disturbing is the failure of the Commissioner of Police to execute that order.
All he did was to place policemen outside the office, while the Jang faction is allowed to function from within the office. When we confront Jang with this unhealthy development, he keeps claiming that the matter is in court, hence he would wait for the outcome of the case.
Yet he keeps financing his own faction,†Shuluwa added.
According to him, one of the critical mandates of his committee was the reconciliation of the factions and stakeholders in the state which he claimed his committee had achieved to a large extent.
“Somebody somewhere is just being headstrong, but we must realise that no one individual is bigger than the party,†he said.
