By Richard Animam
Ex-international and presently Lobi Stars of Markudi midfielder Garba Lawal last week dropped a bombshell when he said though he plays in the Nigerian league, he does not cherish the local league. Lawal who  returned to the country few months ago and decided to give back to the local league, said playing for Lobi Stars gives him some fulfilment but stated that the standard of the league is one that leave sour taste in the mouth..

The former Super Eagles player who was capped over 30 times with the senior national team, before taking his leave, says he joined Lobi Stars so as to contribute his quota to the development of the team. Lawal who helped Lobi pick up three points few weeks ago, said although he does not like the standard of the Nigerian league, he had no option than to do something to help in it develop.

Lawal’s disdain for the local league is such that he does not watch the league despite the hype by DSTV and the  print media in the country. “I don’t cherish the league and I do not watch Nigerian league and that is why I can not say much about the league.”, he said.
