Stakeholders in theÂ Information Technology (IT) sector have been urged to facilitate the development of internet in Nigeria.
The Executive Chairman of Linkserve Ltd, Chief Chima Onyekwere, gave the advice in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria Digital Sense forum scheduled for Nov 5, 2009 in Lagos.
According to the statement, the theme of the forum is â€˜Internet governance: creating opportunities for all Nigeriansâ€.
Onyekwere stressed the need for Nigeriaâ€™s voice to be adequately heard at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
He called on the stakeholders to come up with propositions that would best mainstream Nigeriaâ€™s internet penetration at another forum slated for Egypt later in the year.
The Executive Director, Operations of Digital Sense Africa (DSA), Mrs Nkemdilim Nweke, said that the choice of Onyekwere to chair the forum, represented the quality of participants expected at the forum.
Nweke said that the choice would elucidate Onyekwereâ€™s position as one of the chieftains of the Nigerian Internet community.
She said that Onyekwere, who currently oversees a conglomerate under Linkserve, would add value to the forum and share his personal experience with participants as regard the theme of the forum.She said that a position paper would be presented to government on the way forward at the end of the forum.
