Members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation are at war over Super Falcons’ chief coach.
Two candidates – Emeka Ezeugo and Uche Eucharia – are on the NFF top list, but indications are rife that some members of the NFF are favouring the latter for the Super Falcons’ plum job at the detriment of the former Super Eagles defensive midfielder.
Ezeugo, who was understood to have come first in the female national team interview conducted for the 14 coaches, is being tactically brushed aside for Uche Eucharia to step in as the team coach.
An NFF board member who will not want to be named, insisted that he had told the football authority that no woman can effectively handle the female national team for now, because they do not have the necessary experience and exposure.
“At best, female coaches can serve as assistants. We are still talking to the NFF president on the need to heed to the voice of reason and jettison the idea of appointing a woman for the Super Falcons. We will continue to speak to him but should he refuse we will go to town to absolve ourselves of blameâ€, the NFF source said.
Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, the NFF Technical committee chairman, said that coaches for all the national female teams would be named in the next few days.
A dependable NFF source stated that some members of the football house are moving against Ezeugo’s appointment for fear that he might be too critical of the administration and will be hard to control.
The source said NFF has settled down to appoint Eucharia for the female team top job.
But there are fears by some board members that Eucharia does not possess the necessary experience to pilot the national team.
