Aba — PRINCE Ifeanyi Ikwechegh, the chairman of Aba North Local Government Area of Abia state, who is owing the workers seven months salary arrears, says that the council is making concerted effort to clear the arrears of the salaries.
The chairman, who had blamed the non-payment of salaries on the huge number of ghost workers in the council and very little allocation from the federation account, however, commended Governor Theodore Orji for releasing some funds to the council, which was used to offset one month out of the seven months salary arrears.
Speaking to Journalists in Aba, the chairman explained that the council would never deliberately owed the workers when he was aware that they have dependents, especially children who go to school.
According to him, of all the 774 councils in the country, Aba North receives the lowest amount from the federation account, which he said accounts for his problem.
