DUTSE — JIGAWA government has planted over 8 million seedlings of different trees in all nooks and corners of the state, aimed at fighting the menace of desert encroachment.
The state Commissioner of Environment, Barr. Yusuf Mato, disclosed this while answering questions from a delegation of Nigerian Defense College who visited the state on facts finding mission.
He said that the state is one of the 11 states of the federation facing desertification threat, and in view of this the government of Sule Lamido launched a massive campaign on tree planting to checkmate the problem.
Mato explained that since the coming of the present government, a lot of resources have been committed to ecological control which includes afforestation and other activities for environmental development.
