BENIN—IMMEDIATE past deputy governor of Edo state, Mr Lucky Imasuen, yesterday admonished Governor Adams Oshimhole to complete the projects which were initiated by Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor’s administration, saying that abandoning the projects and embarking on new ones was wasteful.
He also faulted the claim by the state government that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ruined the state in the last ten years, arguing that the leadership of AC in the state was composed mainly of members of the PDP, including Governor Oshiomhole.
Imasuen, who spoke to Vanguard in Benin City, regretted that due to political differences, majority of the laudable projects initiated by Osunbor’s government in the state had been abandoned by the present government.
He said it was better for the state government to conclude the projects rather than thinking of who would take the credit in order not to waste the funds of the state on such projects in future.
According to him, “as a former deputy governor of the state under Professor Osunbor, we were in power for one year and a half and during that period, we tarred almost 30 per cent of the roads in Edo Central.
“We worked on the Auchi township road, Lampese-Bekuma-Ososo road, NEPA-Otaru-Poly Road, we were working in Ojirami water dam. In Edo South, we worked on Adekpanu road, over N1.3 billion Ihama, Upper Sakpoba, there was a lot of road that we awarded, that jobs commenced before our removal. And now they have been abandoned.”
“So what Oshiomhole should have done is to continue these jobs that Osunbor started because it is irrelevant who gets the credit as long as the people of the state benefit.
What we are saying is that we all know what he has got since he became governor and it is not proportionate with the development on ground.â€
Commenting on the allegation that the PDP ruined the state by the special adviser to the governor on political matters, Mr Charles Idahosa, the PDP Chieftain asserted that “ that song by the AC is laughable, because tell me who is in the AC today that was not part of that PDP government they are castigating.
“Charle Tempo is my friend, but he was the Commissioner for Information during the Igbinedion administration. In fact the mouth piece of the PDP.
“Governor Oshiomhole you are talking about was a PDP member. It was when it became clear that he was not going to get the nomination in PDP that he went to the AC from Labour. Ize-Iyamu was Secretary to Government under Igbinedion for several years, but today he is in the AC.
“Chief Tom Ikimi, a leader I respect, was in the PDP.  In fact, he was the one who moderated the convention where Obasanjo emerged as PDP candidate. Then Omoaghe, the state chairman of the AC, was a leader of the PDP. The Secretary of AC, Gentleman Amegor, was in PDP. So when they accuse the PDP I laugh, it is just the old wine in a new bottle.â€
