ONITSHA—Some lawmakers in the Anambra state House of Assembly under the aegis of Igwebuike Forum have reiterated their call on the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to give the party’s flagbearer in the 2007 governorship election, Dr Andy Uba automatic ticket to contest the February 6, 2010 election scheduled to hold in Anambra state.
Leader of the group, and chairman, House committee on internally generated revenue, Mr. Ebere Ezechukwu told reporters that the action of the national leadership of the party to sell nomination forms and conduct congress in Anambra for the 2010 governorship poll was the height of injustice to the party’s flagbearer in 2007 election which must be quickly addressed if PDP hoped to win the state in the election.
Ezechukwu who was flanked by 20 of the 30 PDP members in the state Assembly, insisted that Uba was still the flagbearer of the party in the state since the supreme court had in its judgement of June 14, 2007 held that INEC erred in the election it conducted on April 14, 2007.
Besides, he said the party should not have been in a haste to conduct a congress when Uba’s case was still pending in the Enugu Appeal court where he is demanding that he be sworn in on March 17, 2010 after the expiration of Mr Peter Obi’s four year tenure.
It will be recalled that the Appeal court in Enugu had on February 18,2008 decided Uba’s case in his favour when it held that the decision of the Election Petitions Tribunal in Awka which nullified Uba’s election was a wrong decision.
