Politicians in the country, especially those in Abia state have been warned to desist from inciting the public in their assessment of development in the state and the country in general.
The Abia state commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr John Nwokocha noted some politicians use incitive,destructiveÂ and selfish expressions to score cheap political points.
“But these groups of political tattlers and jobbers have no constituency, so they go about using hoodlums to rupture peace and tranquility”.
The commissioner, while speaking to journalists in his office stated that the warning became neccessary in view of the spate of uninformed, unjustified and unwarranted attacks both on the person and administration of Governor T A. Orji. Mr Nwokocha in the same vein enjoined journalists not to to allow themselves to be used by disgruntled politicians who are bent on causing disaffection in the system to satisfy their narrow interest.
The commissioner also tasked the pressmen to always stick to the fine tradition of the pen profession by cross checking their information with a view to balancing it in observance of their professional ethics.
The commissioner stated that the Gov. Orji-led administration was not aversed to criticism when made constructively, stressing that politicians in the opposition camps must endeavour at all times to support their views and comments with verifiable facts.
Mr Nwokocha maintained that Governor Orji was committed to rendering service to the state and would not be distracted by politicians who have no base but have penchant for character assassination and parochialism.
Mr Nwokocha pointed out that the governor has made remarkable achievements in virtually all facets of socio political,economic and human capital developments of the state adding that the micro crdit initiative of the wife of the governor Chief Mrs Mercy Udochi Orji is impacting positively on lives of the people.
The commissioner stated that the people oriented programmes of the governor ranging from agriculture, health to provision of means of transportation, opening up of network of roads to distribution of transformers to communities and promptly addressing the challenge of insecurity, is putting smiles on the faces of Abians, even as his popularity has continued to soar based on all these.
Mr Nwokocha, while noting that the governor promoted all the civil servants in the state to the next grade levels in 2007, disclosed that despite the adverse consequence of the global economic meltdown, Governor Orji is striving to meet his obligation to the workers through payment of salaries, a committment which has earned him the appellation- friend of the workers. Stating that Governor Orjiâ€™s feat in the health sector speaks volume, Nwokocha disclosed that the education sector has improved tremendously under the present administration through the empolyment of qualified teachers and construction ofblocks of classrooms and free school bus scheme for students.
The commissioner who stated that the present administratio has boosted tourism immensely, however added that the governorâ€™s detractors would fail as his good work will speak for him.
Mr Nwokocha, the Abia state government spokesman assured that Abia state is investors friendly with both developed capital and infrastructures waiting to be tapped.
