FIFA referees stuck on bad road
Abuja – FIFA’s refereeing officials at the on going Under-17-World Cup tournament were on Thursday in Abuja stuck for two hours at a bad spot on the road leading to their training venue.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the bus conveying the officials from a training session at the FIFA Goal project could not move because of the bad road.
The road which is currently under construction became difficult for vehicles to pass because of a downpour.
One of the officials who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity expressed his disgust over the difficulties the officials experienced passing through the road.
However, rescue came from labourers at the scene who filled the bad spot with stones to enable the bus to move out from where it was stuck.
The official lamented that the situation was not good for the tournament.
“I urge the authorities responsible for the road project to rescue the situation immediately to enable vehicles to have easy movement on the road.
“This ugly situation if not checked, could result to an embarrassment to the country,’’ the official said.
