ABUJA — The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has awarded N7.9 billion contracts for the rehabilitations, maintenance and repairs of 42 road projects across the nation.
Managing Director, FERMA, Kabir Abdullahi, while signing the contracts agreement with the construction firms in Abuja, warned the contractors against compromise and shoddy job while executing the projects.
Abdullahi who charged the contractors “to use quality materials, strict adherence to specifications and non-compromise,†said the agency would ensure Nigerians get value for the money being spent on the projects.
He said the 24 road projects were major contracts awarded by the agency in the last one and half years, a development he attributed to the new Procurement Act, which required all that clarified bids be forwarded to the Bureau for Public Procurement for approval.
According to him, this is the first batch of the contracts which has been approved by the BPP and we cannot wait for the second batch because of the failing condition of our roads.â€
Some of the projects include the maintenance of Ibadan-Ife Road at the cost of N221,122,652, maintenance of Minna-Tegina-Kotangora road at the cost of N220, 501,923, the maintenance of Abuja-Kaduna road at the cost of N248, 971,633 and the maintenance of Egbema-Ahoada-Abua-Degema road amongst others.
