EAC celebrates old students

By Emmanuel Edukugho

Education Advancement Center, EAC, Ibadan is planning a re-union night for all its old students. The event which is meant to bring together all graduates of the center is scheduled for December 19, 2009, the proprietor of the center Pastor Muyiwa Bamgbose said in an interview in Ibadan recently.

According to Pastor Bamgbose, the center which was established in 1996 has produced over 1,500 students who have passed the Cambridge Advanced level examination.

The idea of the re-union is to create a forum for the old students to interact and network. This has become necessary because the old students of the center have excelled in various Universities in Nigeria , the United Kingdom , the United States of America , Canada and other places around the world.

The re-union night is an indication that the center has recorded tremendous success in its main focus which is to train and present students for the Cambridge Advanced level examination.

He added however that at present the center is working with Oyo State government to conduct Mock SSS III Examination for about 60,000 candidates all over the State.

This will be done in collaboration with the state government. As he put it, “we will use the teachers in the school system to serve as invigilators and supervisors. The teachers will be moved to other schools apart from their own school. Our center will set the questions and mark the scripts.

We will use our equipments and staff to ensure credibility. We believe this will give the children opportunity for better preparation for the real senior secondary school certificate examination SSCE to be conducted by WAEC and NECO.

Commenting on other benefits of the Mock exam, Pastor Bamgbose said, “we are interested in building confidence in the students so that they can go into the real SSCE without getting involved in cheating or any examination malpractice”.

He disclosed that the center is also involved in supply of laboratory chemicals to schools in addition to serving as the Nigerian Representative to a company that produces software which allows parents to monitor the performance of their children in schools.

On the achievements of the old students he disclosed that one of them is working in the National Space Administration Agency (NASA) in the United States of America . There are also some of them who are staff of various Universities in Africa, Europe and America .

His main reason for establishing the center is to give hope to parents and students. As a matter of fact the idea of starting the center came from a challenge which his family confronted. “We had a challenge. Our first daughter scored 198 in UME and she could not be admitted in any University.

So we had to fall back on the Advanced level examination. We discovered IJMB in the North but due harassment by cult guys we brought her back to Ibadan . That was how we started a center to train her and other students for Cambridge advanced level”.
