Detention : Group seeks apology for ex-Anambra PDP boss

By Vincent Ujumadu

Awka—THE arrest and detention of the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Pandolla Okwuosa during the recent ward congress of the party has angered Oganiru Anambra, a socio-cultural organisation in the state, which says that the PDP chieftain deserves an apology from the leadership of the party and members of the Governor Gabriel Suswam ward congress committee for the embarrassment they caused him.

In a statement in Awka weekend, the group said the allegation of result snatching and the arrest of the PDP chieftain, were aimed at tarnishing the good image and integrity built over the years by Okwuosa.

According to the statement, the truth of the matter was that the congress committee that came to Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area, had an already made script which they came with to enable them deliver particular delegate aspirants, adding that the development was dangerous for the sustainable peace in PDP and a threat to the country’s democracy.

“The committee and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Oyi arrived Umunya with over 50 police men, intimidating and harassing the public by shooting sporadically in the air.

It was in the course of this that some people approached the congress committee and complained that their forms were missing from among the ones called out as delegate aspirants,” the group said.
