The leader ship tussle that factionalized the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) at the national level between a group loyal to the Chairman of Board of Trustees of the party and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu and Chief Isa Akerele-led faction has reared its head in Anambra state chapter of the party, with the former Deputy State Chairman, Mr. Martin Okeke declaring himself the state chairman at the weekend.
Okeke said, yesterday in Awka that his leadership had been recognised by the Akerele faction of the party, adding that he would strive to correct the injustices that existed in the party in the past.
According to him, the act of injustice and corrupt manipulation of the state congress that brought the Frank Igboka-led state executive into power would not be tolerated by members of the party in the state, adding that efforts would be made to correct the anomaly.
“By this unprincipled act of imposition of candidates, the party’s high command introduced bad blood into the party at all levels. It is the bad blood, lack of respect for other people’s views, uncompromising attitude of the leaders and manipulation of electoral process to suit pre-determined ends, pretence and hypocrisy that brought the problem being faced in the party,†he said.
He said that it was the alleged fraudulent and open partiality in choosing the gubernatorial candidate of PPA in Anambra state that created the opportunity for a break-up of the party in the state.
