ASABA—Delta State chapter of the National Association of Women Judges in Nigeria met in Asaba, weekend seeking a lasting solution to the menace of child trafficking.
The group also decried the negative effects and consequences that accompany such illicit act.
Welcoming guests to the first ever conference of the Association, the Chief Judge of Delta State, who is also the President of the Association, Justice Roseline Bozimo, said the fight against child abuse must begin in the family.
“It is my submission that the fight against child abuse must begin in the family. The family unit is the best starting point for redress and we all agree that the woman is key to the family.
“This conference will give us the opportunity, as women judges, to re-assess the process of examining our past and present roles, our responsibilities in the upbringing of our children, the disintegration of our rich societal values, positive cultures and tradition and their impact on the well being of the society, she said.
She noted that the “consequences of exposing children to hawking, street begging and street life are devastating.
“The damage or harm might not only be on the children, but also the family and the larger society. Many of the them turn out to be dropouts, cultists, criminals, fraudsters, and delinquentsâ€.
