CALABAR—Cross River State council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Federal Government over the success of the first phase of its amnesty programme.
In a statement issued at the end of its 3rd general congress, the union also urged those concerned with the post-amnesty programme to make concerted efforts towards the success of the entire programme to enable peace reign in the nation and for the needed development in the Niger Delta to be achieved.
The union also commended ASUU for suspending the strike embarked upon three months ago. This, it noted, would give both parties ample opportunity to resolve the lingering issue that brought about the strike.
It also implored the other unions, as SSANU and NASU to emulate ASUU so that the strike would be totally called off in the interest of the nation’s education sector. The NUJ congratulated the Cross River State government and management of Tinapa Business Resort Limited for the successful berthing of Tinapa Shipping Lines on the nation’s shores and urged government to continue in this direction.
According to the union, this will boost investment and encourage importers and exporters within the South-South and South-East regions of the country to patronize Calabar Seaport, with Tinapa Shipping lines being reliable.
